Context and Challenge
Financial institutions and real estate investors faced increasing regulatory and market pressure to comply with SFDR and EU Taxonomy requirements, while also demonstrating credible ESG integration across investment strategies and portfolios. The main challenge was the absence of structured ESG and data collection frameworks, due diligence (private equity and debt), and sustainability objectives aligned with EU regulations.
Organisations needed to align ESG compliance with business strategy, engage stakeholders effectively, and respond to growing scrutiny from regulators, investors, and legal advisors.
Approach and Implementation
We led SFDR and EU Taxonomy projects from scratch, delivering end-to-end implementation across regulatory, strategic, and operational dimensions. Key activities included:
- Designing and implementing SFDR and EU Taxonomy frameworks, covering data collection, classification, disclosures, and supporting policies.
- Supporting ESG integration into corporate and investment strategy, including sustainability goals, targets, and net-zero considerations.
- Conducting ESG due diligence for private equity and debt transactions, within large real estate portfolios.
- Cooperating closely with ongoing ESG management teams to embed ESG processes into day-to-day portfolio management.
- Delivering corporate training, business development support, and market research on ESG best practices and regulatory trends.
- Interfacing with clients, external legal teams, and stakeholders, and representing the organisation in webinars and external forums through ESG thought leadership.
Results and Impact
- Successful implementation of SFDR and EU Taxonomy-compliant frameworks, enabling consistent and defensible disclosures.
- Improved ESG integration across investment decisions and portfolio management, supporting both regulatory compliance and value creation.
- Strengthened due diligence processes for private equity and debt, reducing ESG-related risk and improving investment transparency.
